Books and Study Material - Chemistry

Greetings Readers
It appears as if you all are liking the previous posts and that has encouraged me to continue writing posts to help you out with NEET/AIIMS exams.Today I will be telling you about the books about the books of Bio-students "2nd or even 1st favorite subject-Chemistry".Again all the students are divided into 3 categories - Beginner,Semi-pro and Pros.
  • Beginners-Those who have just began NEET/AIIMS preparation and don't have much clue about the pattern and syllabus of NEET/AIIMS
  • Semi-pro -Those who have already began their preparation and have undergone 2-3 months of coaching and studying and are now aware of the pattern and syllabus of NEET/AIIMS. Although they maybe still in confusion of topics and chapters.
  • Pro - These are the people who have already mastered NCERT and coaching study materials and are looking for more to maybe study for Olympiads like NSEC and other exams like KVPY.
Core books - Recommended for beginners,semi-pros and pros alike.
  • NCERT  Chemistry Class 11&12
  • Many students think that they need to do high level books of JEE type and NCERTs are "sarkari" ones and useless but the case is actually "the opposite".Actually NCERTs are great books on theory and even questions, its just that the arrangement and the depth of topics make them only a bit inconvenient. For beginners, you must start from NCERT and then move to coaching materials(they are also VERY important for NEET/AIIMS Chemistry). You should once or twice study theory and then solve questions from NCERT which will make you get a firm grip at the basics.Plus, for Inorganic Chemistry NCERT is best alone itself.Only other thing you would be needing in Inorganic Chem is DLP/Coaching booklets for question practice.

  • A good NEET/AIIMS DLP or Booklet package from a reputed coaching instituteHere comes the difference between Bio and Phy/Chem in study materials. In Bio its possible to score 75-80% with only NCERT,but here to even reach 120-140 out of 180 you need coaching materials. Many formulas, theories and a good question bank are missing from NCERT Chem books so you definitely need something extra.
I myself have used Resonance, Aakash DLP and Allen DLP and can tell that Resonance one is the best for NEET/AIIMS Chemistry as they contain the correct pattern and level that is needed today in NEET/AIIMS. They have previous year questions from JEE-Main and Advanced too which help a lot since in past 2 years NEET/AIIMS are coming quite increased in difficulty(as compared to pre-2015 papers) and thus you need that extra edge. Aakash ones(as I have seen) are good at theory but lack questions(very less questions per chapter).Allen ones were not updated(as of 2014-15) with latest pattern of NEET/AIIMS and had old questions from like 1990-2005.So no use. But,they may get updated in future(like this year or next year). So they may become a good choice, although I can't comment much on that.

Auxiliary books - These can be used once you are a semi-pro and need to become a pro.Use when you have time free after doing your coaching/DLP material or when maybe when you are revising your topics. These are question having books which will enhance your range of concepts and make you improve upon them.

  • Problems in Physical Chemistry by Narendra Awasthi

This is one of the finest question books for NEET/AIIMS Physical Chemistry. Narendra Awasthi himself is HOD Physical Chemistry in Vibrant,Kota which is one of the best institute in Kota for JEE.
I myself solved it in last 2 months and the questions were from level 0 to level 100,which helps a lot in both revision and self-assessment.10-15 questions in each chapter were touching AIEEE/JEE level, which NEET/AIIMS are themselves are themselves doing. It contains 2 parts in each chapter basically.Part 1 has author's own questions which are new and better.Part 2 consists of nearly all previous year PMTs and AIIMS questions which may help if your coaching modules/booklets don't contain them. The level of this book is more than sufficient for NEET/AIIMS papers.
Please don't buy JEE editions of these as they have time consuming questions like that of JEE(as my PCM friends told).Stick to NEET/AIIMS editions.

  • Problems in Organic Chemistry by MS Chouhan
This is probably the best syllabus accurate, all types of questions covering question single book for NEET/AIIMS. It contains extra chapters on IUPAC Nomenclature,POC and the most important GOC aside form NCERT topics. Since GOC is not given properly in NCERT as well as in coaching sheets of Aakash and some institutes except Resonance(best for GOC) and Allen. But GOC being a fundamental topic is quite important for NEET/AIIMS as many direct questions come from it.It has almost 200-250 questions per chapter which provides a lot of practice of organic chemistry. If you are able to do it without much hassle(except like 10-12 per chapter) you are in good position for acing Organic Chem in both AIIMS and NEET.

Books for Pros - These are recommended only for pros, who are people that have mastered Chemistry of NEET/AIIMS with full syllabus and study material coverage and want something even more to practice. Not recommended for beginners and semi-pros as it will waste their time and confuse them.

  • Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations by RC Mukherjee
This is normally recommended for JEE Advanced but when I solved it I didn't feel the questions were"impossible" to do,although they required good command over the subject and better calculation skills.Do it to get the final touch for Physical Chemistry.
Thats all with this post.My last words remain the same as in the Biology books post.
"Actually the main thing behind this post is informing students that they should focus on few selected, well recommended books rather than again and again changing them and ending up with a pile of books and no knowledge still. Also don't pay heed to X student or Y Bhaiya and Z Didi for book recommendations unless they have themselves completely studied from that book and are benefiting from it.I have seen many people get "out of course" and quite thick books which they never studied again after few days or weeks of purchasing them.Simply because these didn't help for NEET/AIIMS.
Please stick to your coaching teacher(not school teacher) and ex-NEET/AIIMS high rankers only for book recommendations.Once you have chosen few books, stick to them for a good period and many coaching tests until you feel that's not helping.Do learn patiently and steadily as only what you have extracted from these books will help you finally, not having these books themselves."
Will update list if find other good books too!
Till next time

    Books and Study Material- Biology

    Greetings Readers
Now that NEET-2 is done, its your own chance next or next to next year to ace the exams of NEET and AIIMS. For that you must have got or will need books and study materials to prepare for the topics.Today I will be telling you about the books I followed and what one should follow while preparing for NEET Biology.
I will be dividing all students into 3 categeries- Beginner,Semi-pro and Pros.
    • Pro - These are the people who have already mastered NCERT and coaching study materials and are looking for more to maybe study for Olympiads like NSEB .
Core books -These must be used by beginners,semi-pros and pros alike.

    • NCERT Biology Class 11&12

NEET and AIIMS both use NCERT as their core syllabus, except on few 7-8 questions that go out of syllabus.Mostly 80-90% questions in these exams are directly from NCERT Biology.Diagrams and figures also maybe directly asked from these books.
"NCERT to aapko puri karni hi paregi agar NEET/AIIMS me success chahiye to.Koi bahana nahi chalega".
    • Dr.Ali's Objective Biology for all PMTs(Sasha Publications)

These two books are quite good when it comes to master NCERT Biology. If you study and then check your progress by doing its questions, you will get a right benchmark of which topics you are strong in and which ones you are weak in.Also it has some out of NCERT questions too which may help in answering out of NCERT questions in NEET. I myself used them throughout my preparation and was luckily recommended these two by my coaching teacher. This is by far the most concise, non question repeating, unique question having book for NCERT Biology that I have seen in 2 years of my preparation.

Auxiliary books and study material - These can be used once you are a semi-pro and need to become a pro.Use only one or at the most two of these.Don't buy all three.
    1. Aakash Institute NEET/AIIMS(Medical) DLP Biology Books - These are almost 9-10 books(as I have seen) having all chapters of NCERT Biology discussed in more detail with core lines used of NCERT. With today's pattern of 'NCERT+' syllabus of NEET/AIIMS these provide a good option for study materials that you need to study aside from NCERT. These also contain questions that you need to practice for NEET/AIIMS(Recommended for Non-Allenites or Aakash enrolled students.)
2.Allen Biology DLP books- If you are already enrolled in Allen Career Institute, stick to your own sheets and your teacher notes rather than enrolling for other DLP(for Biology),as they are more than enough for NEET/AIIMS if you study them meticulously. By reading other DLPs, you may get confused and end up wasting time. Also,if not an Allenite, Aakash and Allen DLPs are almost equivalent so it's a good option too.
3.Resonance Biology DLP Modules - Resonance being a new institute in Biology has its study material in developing phase.Although I can tell you the teachers currently designing these are way good and experienced and they may surpass Aakash or atleast Allen soon in quality of content. Those enrolled in Resonance, should at least do the questions given at the back in Exercises section. These are the most updated ones till date.Theory may be done by teacher notes or Allen/Aakash books as any of the topics in these are not given in a good way(till 2014,2015 ones) for theory. Not recommended over Allen/Aakash as of 2016.
(I myself have used only these DLP books so can only tell about them not others. Also if you are only looking for study material and not classroom course of the above ones, please buy only Biology study material of Aakash or Allen since for Physics and Chemistry Resonance ones are way better and updated).

Books for Olympiads - These are recommended only for pros or semi-pros who are almost becoming pros with NCERT and coaching materials syllabus.
1.Campbell Biology(by Jane Reece) - This is actually a graduate level biology book although not very complex in language and topics are same as NCERT.
This is perhaps the most easy to read Biology book as it explains every thing in the most easiest words possible. With colorful diagrams and illustrations, it makes Biology a fun to read subject. Many questions come directly from it in NSEB Olympiad. Also 2-3 over the level questions(like glyphosate resistance in "AIPMT 2015 3 May") may come from here in NEET/AIIMS.(Please do not purchase this book physically as this one is quite costly(5000-25000).Rather download a PDF  copy online to read on your computer or may be get a black-white printout of individual chapters whenever you need)

    2. Arihant INBO Resource book by Dr. RK Manglik -

This one is the book you may need to practice previous year Biology Olympiad questions to get the best idea of what topics to read specifically for Olympiads. There aren't any other books as far as I have seen specifically for NSEB/INBO Biology questions.
Here comes the end to this list.I and some of my classmates of my batch at Resonance did only these few books of Biology in 2 years to ace NEET,AIIMS and Olympiads. Two people from our batch qualified for INBO(2nd stage of Olympiads) in 2015.
    P.S. I didn't!
You may be thinking that I have XYZ book different from the above mentioned ones. What should I do?...........................Answer-No problem. You may try the above ones and if they don't suit you,you may use your own ones that your teacher has recommended too.
Actually the main thing behind this post is informing students that they should focus on few selected, well recommended books rather than again and again changing them and ending up with a pile of books and no knowledge still.
Please stick to your coaching teacher(not school teacher) and ex-NEET/AIIMS high rankers only for book recommendations.Once you have chosen few books, stick to them for a good period and many coaching tests until you feel that's not helping.Do learn patiently and steadily as only what you have extracted from these books will help you finally, not having these books themselves.
    Till next time

The dreaded one! NEET Physics(Part 1)

Physics......................that is one thing that scares medical aspirants the most throughout their 2 years preparation(I myself feared it a lot....literally feared!).
Actually the main cause of this fear is our own thinking. We think that Physics contains a lot of mathematics  and infinite formulas that we can't learn and also the fact that we are PCB people not PCM ones.
Although initially this is felt by everyone and that is completely normal as we weren't exposed to such 'full flash' Physics in class 9 and 10.But if one doesn't let go off this fear soon then results may be disastrous.Let me tell you my own story of 11th class.
I started my AIPMT/AIIMS preparation in April 2014 at Resonance Jodhpur. Mathematics was the subject that I decided to leave behind forever (at least at school) that day on wards. But the surprise was that the first lecture in Physics was on..................any guesses huh?.........Mathematics.Clean bowled......no!Actually I got A1 in Mathematics in Class 10 and didn't fear it except some out of the box complex problems. Also I couldn't solve questions with that ease and flow that other guys(now in PCM) did.I needed time and hard work to get to the same. That is why preferred landing in PCB.
Anyways coming back we were taught basic mathematics like trigonometry,calculus-simple differentiation and integration and vectors. These are quite important for Physics of Class 11&12 and you will be struggling if you don't get them right at the earliest.
Next up was Kinematics(equations of motion, projectile and relative motion). At that time I could do quite a good amount of questions of kinematics, except the high level ones. Those ones gave me a scare and in the exam I would get quite confused and waste a lot of time in them. The flow of topics kept on going with Newton's Laws,Friction,Work Power Energy and Circular motion. As the topics were  moving on my marks in AIPMT pattern tests in Physics kept dipping. Started at 140,then 108,117,112,105,98.
Then came this topic called Center of Mass. Isne to aisa mara ki uthhna mushkil ho gaya waapas. I used to almost get to tears because of this topic. Finally on the test on 31.07.2014,I reached my all time low score in Physics-only 46/180.
I was disappointed, not because I craved for marks or being topper, but due to the fact that I was involved quite deeply in AIPMT/AIIMS preparation in these two years, leaving all other stuff like social media, playing games, tourism, holidays, social functions etc.
Then one fine day I decided to turn back and give all my effort to Physics. All this with self study. Our coaching teacher of Physics had degraded his teaching with time, and now no one could understand concepts properly.I solved all examples and problems(even JEE Advanced ones) of Resonance study material before anyone in the class.Used to ask doubts before other even started solving DPPs(Daily Practice Problems).
Then the next test came on 14.09.2014.Expectations were high. But at the end.......................still only 69/180.Although the highest was 97 only, still it hurt me a lot.Anyways still maintained the same pattern and didn't leave determination. On I guess 28.09.2014 again gave an AIPMT pattern test. This time -"mehenat kam aayi".Reached 112.Highest.
Mastered COM and other concepts, but then Rotational Motion arrived.Literally, couldn't understand much. Could do basic problems though.Still gave an AIIMS pattern test on 12.10.2014.Result?..............................Surprised with All Resonance Rank 3 both overall and in Physics. My pic displayed at study center notice board labeled as 'Star Performer'.Proud feeling.Confidence reinstated.Good going. Here came Diwali Holidays then.Relaxed for a week.
Back to Coaching after 7 days.Again the performance started dropping.Topics like Thermodynamics,KTG,SHM,Waves,Fluid Mechanics. This continued till February.End of session, still so many topics weak. Couldn't cross even 100 marks.Depression came due to Physics. Also Biology was disturbed at the same time due to irregular schedule of classes and syllabus coverage at coaching.Double pressure.Anyway left coaching studies in last 15 days of February to prepare for Annual Exams(Hadn't gave a damn to Physical Education and English throughout the year).
Although all may seem ups and downs in my 11th class Physics story, the main thing I learnt and that I want to tell everyone that in the first year ups and downs are sure to come and you must be ready for that. Please try to stay calm and give you best.Nothing else matters if you are giving you best.Try experimenting new ways of learning to find the way that suites you the best. AIPMT/AIIMS are a long time to go.
Although this doesn't mean that you will be lazy in 11th class. If you trust me,I can say with 100% confidence that one who makes a firm grip in ALL topics of 11th class PCB ,he/she has already set the best stage for getting a good rank in AIPMT/AIIMS. All he/she would need to do is to revise them carefully and practice a lot.No stresses in class 12 of Class 11 on him/her.
Also I would be continuing this post to an even interesting and inspiring story of my 12th class Physics. So stay tuned.
    Till next time
    Bye!

    All about the Subjects-NEET Chemistry

    Greetings Readers
Continuing my previous post on Exam pattern, today I will be writing about NEET Chemistry.
    NEET Chemistry
As of 2016,the NEET Chemistry paper consists of 45 questions of 4 marks each, giving a total of 180 marks. The paper although not mentioned, but is divided into three sections-Physical,Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, normally each section having 15 questions(may vary a bit too).
Personally speaking Chemistry was my 'the favorite subject' throughout my preparation.Although Biology was my No.1 subject and later on I started liking Physics also, but Chemistry was that subject that never failed me from day one.I didn't face much problems in this subject except in like Inorganic Chem and Thermodynamics.
Talking of all Bio students,Chemistry is one subject which is neither much difficult nor so easy, but which can be easily mastered by being regular with it and just learning and practicing a lot.Concepts may take a while to understand but you won't face problems again if you understand them sufficiently once.
Now coming to the topics, first lets take Physical Chemistry
Physical Chemistry is the more mathematical and calculative part of Chemistry where honestly sometimes we Bio people get stuck because of lengthy calculations and formulas.
I too did many mistakes in tests of Physical Chemistry, but one thing is that there is always scope to improve and you can do it yourself.
One of the things to improve is your calculations and the way you take approximations.Sometimes here very long and confusing figures are given as values of physical quantities. You need to learn how to approximate and get to the closest value in the shortest time. This will not come in one day but will take a lot of practice and lots of errors and corrections, plus feedback from you test results.
Topics like Thermodynamics,Equilibrium,Mole Concept and Electrochemistry are fundamental concept making topics and you should make these topics strong so as to get a command over the subject. In the real paper,Physical Chemistry will take more time as compared to the Organic and Inorganic parts so you need to keep a track of time too.
    Next up is Organic Chemistry
If this didn't exist,Chemistry could have become my least favorite subject of the three.Organic was simply my strongest command from day one and the way this subject put questions simply fascinated me.The name reactions were favorites and we used to have a lot of fun deciding major products of these.
Coming to the subject,Organic Chem is basically broken into several chapters according to functional groups and some introductory topics like IUPAC Nomenclature,POC and GOC.Most of you may not be knowing POC and GOC. Actually these are Practical Org Chem and General Org Chem. POC consists of tests of detecting a particular functional group in a compound wheres GOC contains concepts like Resonance,I effect,M effect, hyperconjugation and effect of these on acidic and basic strength of organic compounds.
Truly saying,GOC is the abcd..... of Organic Chemistry.Without studying its impossible to score easily and quick in NEET and AIIMS.Once you get a good command over GOC,you can predict products of reaction yourself rather than looking and getting confused by the options.Although some coachings like Allen and Resonance do teach GOC,many of them ignore it and just make the students mug the reactions, which results in weak concepts for many except for those 'rattus' and 'maggus' who well..................mug up everything.
Good sources to study GOC are Resonance AIPMT DLP Booklets and a book called "Problems in Organic Chemistry for AIPMT/AIIMS" by MS Chouhan. Trust me if you do both of them with complete concept grasp then you are at good chances of getting 100% in AIPMT and AIIMS Organic Chemistry.
Next and the most feared part is Inorganic Chemistry
It is basically the most dreaded part due to its reputation of being too much lengthy and 'ratta lagana' type.Although exceptions of Chemical Bonding(one of the most fundamental topics of inorganic chemistry) and Periodic Table. These two topics are quite conceptual and once you get the basics right, you will never do mistakes in them.
Actually the 'rattu' part is s-block,p-block(class 11 &12) and d and f block. They contain quite a number of reactions, structures and reactivity orders. You may learn reactivity order by remembering the reason behind the order.Reactions may be learnt by writing them again and again, structures can be learnt by drawing again and again. The key thing to do here is to revise again and again and solve any residual doubts. Also, you don't need to go out of the NCERT book here. Even JEE guys study only NCERT for inorganic chem.Although you may refer to other materials for questions and reactivity orders which may not be properly given in NCERT.
I have told you a lot about NEET Chemistry. Will expand on individual topics later on.My next post will be on everyone's (including me) most feared subject-Physics!!!!!!
    Till then
    Bye!
Edit:Do post your queries in comments section.I will try my best to answer them.

    All about the Subjects-NEET Biology

    Greetings Readers
NEET and AIIMS,although similar in syllabus are quite different in pattern.
    First lets talk about NEET.
NEET consists of 180 questions(as of 2016) of which 90 are of Biology(50% weight-age-THE BIG THING) and 45 each of Physics and Chemistry. All questions are objective types with 4 options. The main thing to note here is the double weight-age of Biology as compared to Physics and Chemistry.Biology alone accounts for 360 marks, and can be a big game changer.
My personal opinion for this pattern is that one should be quite firm in Biology and plus also should score good in Physics and Chemistry. This is because of the competitive environment these days. With so many coaching institutes and books available now, everyone can master each of the 3 subjects. There are so many toppers(in top 100) who get full marks in atleast 1 subject. So, this gives an idea where the competition has reached now.Its not at all impossible to get full marks in NEET subjects.
    NEET Biology
Coming first to Biology, here as of 2015 and 2016,the pattern has seen quite a shift and this is quite a big story.
To start, earlier in 2013 and 2014,there had been a shift to direct NCERT questions and very few(almost 4-5 questions) came from out of NCERT book. This was a shift from 'out of NCERT' questions which were asked in AIPMTs before 2013(2008-2012).Many people and teachers started giving tips that study NCERT only and nothing else.I myself started coaching in 2014,when this 'NCERT only wave' was at its peak.Although at our coaching they taught extra stuff in name of AIIMS and Olympiads(will expand on that later). So we didn't do only NCERT.
Everything was going good and then came this paper of AIPMT 2015(3 May). Many of our seniors were having that "upar se gaya" feeling on seeing some Biology questions in the paper.Atleast 10-15 questions went outside NCERT.Big havoc(academic not violent) came in AIPMT coachings that day.'NCERT only' ki toh chhutti ho gayi literally.Everyone started to seek sources to study that extra stuff.Koi Trueman la raha tha,koi Pradeep, koi Allen, koi Aakash.NCERT books ko toh dhul me daal diya logo ne(lol!).Everyone was reading Animal Diversity and Plant Morphology like tomorrow was their PhD exam. Mugging up karne wale jawab pe jawab de rahe the,and I was sitting like ".............."(completely blank).Last me Yes Sir,Yes Sir jarur bol dete the.
Sorry for going off topic but vo time alag hi tha, syllabus confusions ka.
Coming back,I studied NCERT(of 11 and 12) as my core book throughout the year, but at the same time also studied coaching materials and other books(will tell about all of them in a separate detailed post) too. Many people couldn't understand much from these materials themselves, and our Bio teacher at coaching wasn't that particular useful at understanding stuff rather than remembering stuff.Tests were being held continuously in our coaching throughout the year.I myself didn't score more than 250-270 in Biology, but I knew that these were showing false image and I stuck to making my each concept strong. Then came AIPMT/NEET 2016 on 1 May.The first question went above my head but I gradually picked up the pace, doing questions which I felt were confirm and leaving the rest.At last, took risk and marked some doubtful ones too. When I was checking the answer key after coming home, felt devastated by Phy and Chem. But Biology to sankatmochak nikla(Really thank god for this!)-----80 correct,4 wrong and 1 attempted, but almost to be bonus question and 5 left.I didn't get this much marks ever in any coaching test in the past 2 years .'NCERT only' waale fir dokha kha gaye.
I have told you so much to give you conclusion with reason and not giving conclusion directly. This is the shift I am talking about. Now CBSE knows that everyone has coachings and books,so they are going full throttle on questions out of NCERT. If they don't do so,everyone will get high marks in Bio and more and more ties in scores will comewhich will be difficult to break. But in all this everyone forgets that still 75 questions are coming directly from NCERT and you do not need to go too much out of syllabus.Pagalon ki tarah sab kuchh parne ki zaroorat nahi hai. What you need to study according to me is: NCERT+.It means that whatever is given in NCERT is good and you should do it 100% and at the same time you should study the topics or headings given in NCERT in detail too.Like for example a heading ;cardiac diseases' is given,You should study NCERT and then refer the coaching materials for the same.Avoid studying these materials directly as they have some topics which are useless for NEET/AIIMS.Make the habit of studying class notes, then NCERT and then the study materials.I myself used to study these materials directly in 11th class, ignoring notes and NCERT and the result was 220-240 only out of 360 in periodic tests.I realised the fact and changed my way in 2015 July and my understanding of the subject improved a lot, gradually. You should do it from the beginning, so that you get an edge over your 6 lakh(or even more) competitors.
To finish, thanks for having the patience to  read such a long post and also that I will be detailing on individual topics and chapters of Biology in future posts.
    So till then Bye!

About the Exams-NEET, AIIMS and others

To begin with, in India the two most prestigious exams for entering into MBBS colleges are-NEET-UG and AIIMS-UG.
1)NEET-UG : NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test and is conducted by CBSE ,once every year. NEET replaced AIPMT in this year,2016.It is slated to act as a single entrance exam for  all government medical colleges(except AIIMS and JIPMER) and also all private medical colleges in India.Although it won't be happening this year due to the ordinance brought by the Government of India.
The NEET exam gives admission to MBBS mainly through two routes-
i)All India 15% quota- This quota is accessible to all students of India belonging to states who have participated in this All India Scheme.
Of the 29 states in India, only J&K,Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have opted out of this scheme since its inception.Still, a student from these states can be eligible for All India 15% quota by giving a Self declaration(More details available in NEET prospectus on aipmt.nic.in .Whereas, students in the states participating in this scheme can seek admission to 15% of all MBBS seats in various states of India by giving the NEET exam.
ii)State quota with NEET- Some states have chosen to fill their 85% state quota also through the NEET merit list.In this case, CBSE forwards a separate state-wise rank list of students to each state. Also, some separate colleges also take students via NEET. Here's the list from aipmt.nic.in
    1. Haryana
    2. Himachal Pradesh
    3. Madhya Pradesh
    4. Andaman & Nicobar
    5. Arunachal Pradesh
    6. Manipur
    7. Meghalaya
    8. Odisha
    9. Rajasthan
    10. Chandigarh (UT)
    11. University of Delhi
    12. Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune
    13. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (UP)
    14. Hamdard University, New Delhi

I think this much detail is sufficient for beginning and for all the details please read the NEET prospectus at aipmt.nic.in.

2)AIIMS-UG : This exam gives entrance to the most sought medicla college in India,AIIMS Delhi, and the 6 new AIIMS at Bhopal,Jodhpur,Bhubaneshwar,Rishikesh,Raipur and Patna.

This exam is conducted by AIIMS Delhi itself. There are a total of 672 seat for MBBS in all the AIIMS,with 72 seats at AIIMS Delhi and 100 each at the six new AIIMS.
Any student of India can give this exam provided he/she is eligible according to the rules given in AIIMS MBBS prospectus.Since seats are way less than NEET,the competition to get in here is quite tough and cut-throat.Also this test has become online from 2015 and is conducted in two shifts on the same day.

    Other exams

3)State PMTs- In states not participating in NEET for 85% state quota, the states conduct their own exams, according to their own syllabi .These are Maharashtra CET, Gujarat CET, Karnataka CET, UP CPMT etc.I probably won't be able to say much about the details of any of these since I belong to Rajasthan where 85% seats are also filled through NEET.

4)JIPMER-UG : The Jawarhal Institute for Postgraduate Medicine Education and Research, also conducts its own exam for MBBS seats of its two campuses at Puducherry and Karaikal. For more details refer to jipmer.edu.in

To end with, I have given you a fair idea about these exams but I strongly recommend you to read the individual prospectus of each exam so as to get a crystal clear idea of the exam and please remove all the false myths and claims you hear from other students about these exams, before beginning your preparation. For example-Some students of my class were told that board marks were added to make the merit list in NEET,similar to JEE-Main,but it was never so.Thus, please beware of myths like these.

My next post would be highlighting the syllabus and preparation methods for these exams.

    My First post- For starters!

    Greetings Starters
Its July already and you guys must have already taken admissions and started schooling in Class 11,across all boards in our country. You may have also begun coachings for NEET/AIIMS since the month of April 1 guess.
First of all, welcome to Biology stream and also to Science stream in Class 11.All the hard work in getting good CGPA's and percentages in Class 10 has paid off and you have got the stream of your choice.
The next thing I must say that now that you have chosen Biology after all that stream confusion in Class 10 and all those grueling last moment decisions and the foremost Maths v/s Biology stream war,be proud of your decision and work hard to get your dream of NEET, AIIMS and also of your state PMTs.
You have chosen to study life(Biology) over studying numbers(Mathematics) and be proud of it.Never be under confident and have an inferiority complex to PCM students.I had seen that many students of my school and coaching thought that PCM stream is superior even after taking Biology. They say that they took Biology because they were inferior in Academics, especially Mathematics in previous classes, than PCM taking people. Also, these guys felt inferiority even after being separated from PCM guys in Class 11.
If you have these feelings , my only advice is that Biology is,was and will never be inferior to any other subject , be it Mathematics or any thing. Its a realm of its own kind.A subject so full of life and reality that none other offers(barring Chemistry, its a distant second on being lively).
Mathematics, although quite helpful, is a dry and lifeless subject which can never be compared to this subject on life(Biology). Those who study Biology get a chance to appreciate life , that those Crores and lakhs of salary package seeking PCM people won't get any day.

But it does not mean that you should not study Mathematics at all.A little mathematics is (without taking math subject at school) quite essential for doing Physics in Class 11 and 12.
Plus, Physics is quite important when it comes to NEET and AIIMS and without those Mathematics basics you can't do Physics at all.So don't think that Maths is gone forever! But it will not bother you as an independent subject from now at least.
Guessing that you must be visiting my blog while studying to get a MBBS seat in a reputed college of our country,I can say the job and the work you are seeking has got no comparisons in nobility. You seek to serve live people and not machines or softwares. You seek to earn smiles of others and not mere money.I am not saying that good doctors don't earn a lot, but there real interest lies in the patients satisfaction and not on emptying there pockets.
So be motivated, don't get depressed as many students do at this time.I will be giving all details of the actual academics and preparation in my next post.

    The PMTBlog begins!

    Hello Readers,
I am starting this blog after finishing my own AIPMT(NEET) and AIIMS journey(2014-2016), to give out all the knowledge and experience I have gained in these 2 years.Wish this would be useful to you all and prevent you from doing mistakes that I did and also give an edge to your preparation.
I was inspired to do so by a blog http://amangoeliitb.blogspot.in/ , which is run by Aman Goel,JEE Advanced 2013 AIR 33 to help other JEEians help crack JEE with tips and advice from a student(himself) who actually gave JEE. I realised that no such counterpart  of his for NEET or AIIMS exists,so I decided to start it myself.
In this blog, I would be describing my own preparation also.I achieved AIR 780 in AIIMS UG 2016 and am waiting for NEET Results.
These two years of AIPMT/AIIMS preparation are crucial and decide your future. To succeed in getting a decent rank in these exams is a long striving ,difficult  but not an imposible job. There are lakhs of students working hard to crack these exams and the recent shift to the NEET exam scheme has made it even more challenging.
Do post your queries in comments section.I will try my best to answer them.
Edit: Got AIR 1460 in NEET UG 2016.
